Adventure Saturday Series at Explore Park starts on August 7

Roanoke County’s Explore Park will host a full day of expanded family activities on Saturday, August 7. This is the third Adventure Saturday in a four-part event series in 2021, which will also take place October 16. This event will include many family activities including Treetop Quest, nature activities and kids crafts, tubing, kayaking and mountain bike rentals from Blue Mountain Adventures, as well as a Twilight Zipline experience at Treetop Quest. See the August 7 event schedule below.

Treetop Quest – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Soar through at Treetop Quest! Advance registration is preferred, walk-ups based on availability. Save $10 after 4 p.m. on weekends with the last call discount.

Twilight Zipline at Treetop Quest – 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Soar through the trees in darkness and strap on a head lamp at Treetop Quest! Start times available from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Advance registration required.

Tubing, Kayak, SUP and Bike Rentals – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Rent a mountain bike and ride the 14-miles of dual-use trails, or float down the Roanoke River in a tube, kayak or stand up paddleboard. Visit www.bluemtnadventures.com for more information.

Water-Based Gear Vendor – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (free)

Walkabout Outfitter will have outdoor gear on display focused on water-based outdoor activities.

Nature Activities & Kids Crafts – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (free)

Our Explore Park Naturalist will be on site with both crafts and nature activities focused on animal camouflage available for children and adults to enjoy. Plus build your own small sailboat craft will be available.

Climbing Tower – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (free)

Kids Square Mobile Museum – 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. (free)

Experience interactive STEM demonstrations from the staff at Kids Square and Bubbles Galore!

Live Music – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (free)

Live music by Marc Baskind will take place in the Visitor Center Plaza from 11 AM to 3 PM. Live music provided, compliments of Friends of the Blue Ridge.

The Appalachian Open Disc Golf Tournament – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (free)

Spectators are welcome at the Appalachia Open Disc Golf Tournament as 72 local and regional disc golfers compete in this PDGA-sanctioned singles tournament at Mayflower Hills Disc Golf Course.

Explore Park Access – Due to the Roanoke River Bridge closure, the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed from Vinton at Milepost 112 to Explore Park at Milepost 115. Visitors can access Explore Park via the Blue Ridge Parkway North at Milepost 121, Mill Mountain Parkway at Milepost 120 or by the alternate entrance at 3900 Rutrough Road.
