In the rematch of an earlier loss at William Byrd, the Andrew Lewis baseball team weathered an early deficit and rallied for a 5-4 win at Kiwanis Field.

Falling behind 3-0 in the first inning, the Wolverines responded with two runs in the home first. Then, after holding down the Terriers, Lewis grabbed a 4-3 lead going into the third.  Adding a fifth run, Lewis then staved off a Byrd rally, allowing only one more, making the final 5-4 in favor of the Wolverines.

First baseman Caden Love made a great scoop to record the final out, and seventh grader Hunter Bayne threw a complete game, scattering five hits.

“This was a total team effort, and we’re getting contributions from up and down the roster,” said Lewis Coach Greg Gallion.  “Defensively, we’ve gotten so much better than we were opening the season.  We’re not yet ‘flawless,’ but we’re giving opponents fits, lately.”

The Wolverines were scheduled to close their 2017 campaign Wednesday at Kiwanis Field against Glenvar.
