The Andrew Lewis Middle School wrestling team took first place in a big tournament for the second week in a row last Saturday.

The Wolverines followed their championship in the Roanoke City Middle School Duals with a first place in the Norseman Invitational at the Northside High School gymnasium on Saturday.

Lewis beat out runnerup Read Mountain for the championship in the individual tournament. Central Academy took third place and William Byrd was fourth. Glenvar finished ninth.

Lewis had five wrestlers win first place in their weight class, Kyman Kinney at 120 pounds, Addison Wolfe at 136, Boone Fleenor at 160, George Copeland at 2190 and Cameron Martindale at 210. Sam Miles and Matt Moore both placed second, and Bryson Jones got fourth.

“The kids did a great job,” said coach Bob Palleria. “All wrestlers won at least one match in the tournament, and it was a great day.”

Glenvar also had two champions. Mason Hylton won the 77 pound division and Trey Lawrence took first at 91 pounds.

The tournament wrapped up the middle school season.

Mason Hylton of Glenvar is on his way to a 77 pound middle school championship.
Boone Fleenor of Lewis has a hold on his opponent in his 160 pound title bout.
