Intersection Improvements City of Salem
Find out about a project that will improve safety and
reduce delays at the intersection of Apperson Drive
(Route 11) and Orchard Drive in Salem.
The project entails installing a new traffic signal at the
intersection and coordinating it with the nearby signal
on Route 419. A new right turn lane from eastbound
Apperson Drive onto southbound Orchard Drive also
will be constructed. Eastbound Apperson Drive
approaching its intersection with Orchard Drive will be
reconfigured to provide a right turn lane, a through
lane and a left turn lane.

If your concerns cannot be satisfied, VDOT is willing
to hold a public hearing. You may request that a
public hearing be held by sending a written request to
Mr. Jesse Weitzenfeld, Virginia Department of
Transportation, 731 Harrison Avenue, Salem, VA
24153, on or prior to March 24, 2023. If a request for
a public hearing is received, notice of date, time and
place of the hearing will be posted.
