Banana Ball is coming to Salem this weekend but don’t be rushing to the Salem Memorial Stadium box office. The Friday and Saturday games have been sold out for quite some time after a “lottery” for the right to buy tickets.
Friday and Saturday’s games will feature two of the four Banana Ball teams, the Firefighters and Texas Tailgaters. The Savannah Bananas are the mostly widely recognized team and the Party Animals also participate in the games that are a cross between baseball and the circus, sort of like the Globetrotters of baseball.
This weekend’s games will be held the same time as the Salem Fair, which will make for a large group of folks at the Taliaferro Complex. The Banana Ball games will include about 6,500 fans and Friday and Saturday are two of the final three days of the Fair. Parking lots that will have shuttle busses to the complex will be at Metis Holdings on Electric Road, Valley Commons and Layman Distributing on Apperson Drive and Phoenix Investors on the Roanoke Boulevard.
On both days the pregame plaza will open at 3:30 pm with a Fire Drill Live show at 4:30 pm. Gates to Salem Memorial open at 5:30 pm with the game(show) scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm.
