The Salem High girls lacrosse team hammered William Byrd in Vinton Monday, 18-1, to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Salem scored early and often. Ryleigh McNeil led the Spartans with four goals while Ashley Davis, Anne Thomas and Madison Southern had three each. Teagan Wood had two goals and four assists.
Bailey Redford was in goal and had a shutout until the final 30 seconds of the game. She also three ground balls, two caused turnovers and an assist.
“Overall a great effort from start to finish,” said Salem coach Mary Schwartz.
The girls were scheduled to play at Virginia Episcopal School on Wednesday but results were too late for publication. The boys were at Patrick Henry Wednesday for a big game, their first since beating North Cross for the Tommy Girani Cup on March 31.
Both teams are in action next Monday, April 13. The boys will host Franklin County and the girls were headed to Rocky Mount to play the Eagles.
