The Glenvar volleyball team will be home tonight to take on Patrick County in a Three Rivers District match. Glenvar is 6-2 in the district after losing to Radford at GHS Tuesday night.

The Highlanders are now 15-3 overall. Last Thursday they beat a very sound James River team in three sets in Buchanan, 25-21, 25-16 and 25-20.

“James River played well and we had to battle point to point to defeat them,” said Glenvar coach Mark Rohrback.

Sophia Hammersley had 11 assists, 13 digs and two blocks for the Highlanders. Macy McMahon had eight kills and 16 digs, Zella Hayes led the team with 11 kills and added nine digs, Aubrey Board had 14 digs and Emily Rohrback contributed 20 assists and nine digs.

Tuesday was the big district showdown as Radford came to town with an undefeated Three Rivers mark after five games. The Bobcats stayed unbeaten with a three set win over the Highlanders, 25-21, 25-19 and 25-22.

“It was a competitive match but we made too many mistakes,” said Rohrback. “We make the hard plays but we’re not making the easy plays, and you can’t do that against a senior laden team like Radford.”

Hammersley had nine kills to lead the Highlanders. McMahon and Hayes had seven each and Emily Rohrback had 19 assists.

Glenvar is off next Tuesday, returning the court a week from today at Floyd County.
