Dorothy June Smith Bowen, 75, of 321 Pennsylvania Street, Covington died Sunday, February 12, 2017 at The Woodlands, Clifton Forge.

She was born January 1, 1942 in Ohio to the late William Carl Smith and Edna Peeno Smith. She was a homemaker throughout her life and a lifelong member of First Christian Church in Covington, where she belonged to the B-About Circle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Payne “Ted” Bowen; a brother, Carl Junior Smith; and a sister, Beulah Richardson.

She is survived by two daughters, Carla Bowen Davis and husband Richard of Clifton Forge and Jennifer Bowen Tingler and husband Kevin of Covington; a son, Tommy P. Bowen and wife Kim of Cloverdale; three sisters, Emma Horner of Indiana, Ethel Smith of Covington, and Edith Arritt and husband Ronald of Covington; six grandchildren, Kaylie Bowen, Madison Bowen, Ridge Bowen, Kevin Tingler Jr., Kimberly Tingler, and Ethan Davis; a number of nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Steve Arritt; many close friends and family members; and her beloved cat, “Allie.”

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 16, at 11 a.m. in First Christian Church, Covington, with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends attending the service. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the church and other times at her residence.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the First Christian Church, 231 E. Fudge Street, Covington, 24426.
