Ernest “Pig” Robertson Fishing Rodeo
The 74th annual Ernest “Pig” Robertson Fishing Rodeo will be held over four days at Lake Spring Park, offering free trout fishing for area children as well as special sessions for special needs participants and nursing home residents. Children ages 3-8 fish from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 25, and children ages 9-12 fish from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2. Special needs children are invited from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, April 27, and nursing home residents from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, April 29. Participants must bring their own fishing gear, children may catch up to six trout and must keep all fish caught, and pre-registration is required for special needs and nursing home groups. “The Tailgate” food truck will be on-site, and prizes and trophies will be awarded. Community Shredding Event
In an effort to help local citizens protect themselves from identity theft, Vested Partners will host a free community shredding event on Saturday, April 25 from 8-11 a.m. at their office located at 300 E. 2nd Street in Salem, VA. Coffee and donuts will be provided, and you can enter a drawing to win a desktop paper shredder. No RSVP is required. This shredding event is for personal papers with a limit of three bags or boxes per person. Business shredding will not be allowed. Except for paper clips and staples, no metal, batteries, electronics, or other non-paper material can be in boxes or bags brought for shredding.
Black Label Society
Heavy metal powerhouse Black Label Society will bring its blistering riffs and high-energy performance to the Salem Civic Center on Tuesday, May 12. The band will be joined by openers Zakk Sabbath and Dark Chapel. Tickets can be found at the Salem Civic Center box office and through Ticketmaster.
Coffee with Council
Salem City Councilman Hunter Holliday hosts Coffee with Council once a month. Councilman Holliday encourages Salem Residents to attend, enjoy light refreshments and be part of the conversation shaping our city’s future. Thursday May 14 6:00-7:30. Guests are Councilman John Saunders, Director of Parks and Recreation John Shaner, Interim Director of the Electric Department Kevin Drivers.
