Constitution Day Tree Planting at East Hill Cemetery — Sept. 17, 10-10:30 a.m., 200 Cedar St., Salem. The Salem Museum invites the public to East Hill Cemetery for a Constitution Day tree planting near the grave of Gen. Andrew Lewis, Salem’s Revolutionary War champion. The City of Salem will plant the tree and hold a brief ceremony honoring the nation’s 250th birthday and Constitution Day. Following the ceremony, visitors are encouraged to visit the Salem Museum’s featured exhibit, Andrew Lewis: Salem’s Revolutionary Champion, which explores Lewis’ Revolutionary War history through hands-on items and interactive exhibits. Acting Workshop at the Salem Museum — Sept. 19, 1 p.m., Salem Museum. Actor, director and Salem Museum Ghost Walk alum Steve Aaron will lead a free acting workshop open to amateur and veteran performers. The workshop will focus primarily on auditions and first impressions while also incorporating lessons in stagecraft, performance methods and other elements of theater. Aaron has worked on more than 400 productions as an actor, dancer, stage worker and musician.
He also has experience in film production and living history interpretation.
State of the City of Salem: The inaugural State of the City of Salem networking breakfast will be held Sept. 22 at the Salem Civic Center. Networking and breakfast begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by Mayor Renee Turk’s presentation from 9 to 10 a.m. The event will provide an opportunity for residents, business leaders, nonprofit representatives and community members to hear about Salem’s current successes, future priorities and opportunities ahead. Foreigner: The rock band Foreigner will return to the Salem Civic Center this fall as part of its 50th anniversary tour celebrating five decades of performances since the group’s first rehearsal in 1976. The concert is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 7:30 p.m. The band last performed in Salem in May 2023, playing a sold-out show featuring many of its best-known songs. Tickets may be purchased at the Salem Civic Center box office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or online through Ticketmaster.
Salem City Council Candidate Forum: The Kiwanis Club of Salem will host a forum featuring all Salem City Council candidates seeking election on the November ballot from noon to 1 p.m. Sept. 29 in the Community Room at the Salem Civic Center. Candidates will have a few minutes to present their visions, followed by a question-and-answer session. Candidates also will be available to meet with citizens following the forum.
Salem Museum 28th Annual Ghost Walk — Oct. 1-3, 6-8 p.m., East Hill Cemetery, Salem. The Salem Museum’s 28th annual Ghost Walk returns Oct. 1-3, with tours departing from the museum every 15 minutes from 6 to 8 p.m. “Ghosts” will share stories about notable people and places from Salem’s more than 200-year history during family-friendly tours that are informative and fun, but not scary. Advance tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for students of any age and free for children 3 and younger. Advance registration is recommended. The tour covers just over a half-mile, so comfortable walking shoes and a flashlight are recommended. In case of rain, the event will move indoors to the Salem Museum. Proceeds benefit the Salem Museum and its educational programs. Tickets are available at the Salem Museum or online.
