Buchanan Special Events Committee will be selling the first Garden Festival T-shirts

Set against the backdrop of the historic Wilson Warehouse, dozens of vendors will have displays of flowers, tools, plants, art, antiques and handmade crafts for sale on Saturday, May 13 for Buchanan’s fourth annual Garden Festival— just in time for Mother’s Day.

The festival is from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on the Town Park directly behind the Wilson Warehouse/Community House.
“Members of the Buchanan Special Events Committee have been working hard to grow this year’s event,” said Revitalization and Events Coordinator Harry Gleason. “Peggy Ramsey has done an outstanding job coordinating volunteers, attracting dozens of vendors who will be offering kids’ activities, garden plants, handmade crafts, food, wine and more.”

“We will be offering Garden Festival shirts for the first time this year so be sure to shop early to make sure you get one,” Ramsey, the festival chairperson, said. “T-shirts will be available at the Buchanan Special Events Committee Booth as well as chances on a Sunshine Wind Turbine for the garden from Plow & Hearth.”
Annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs and planters overflowing with flowers will be available from garden vendors. Related garden accessories– including birdbaths, hummingbird feeders, garden statuary, birdhouses, garden furniture, wind chimes, garden tools and so much more will also be available.

Lowe’s Home Improvement of Lexington is returning this year with a booth where kids can plant flowers in a pot for a great Mother’s Day gift.
Virginia Master Gardeners will be sharing tips on hot gardening topics such as Debbie Ray’s 11:30 am. and 1:30 p.m. presentation entitled “Gardening With Children,” and Sharon Burnham’s 2:30 p.m. presentation entitled “Worms Make the Best Fertilizer.”

These programs will be held in the historic Wilson Warehouse.
There also will be many arts and crafts such as handmade soaps, potpourris, wreaths, essential oils, antiques, jewelry and more offered by local artists and vendors.

The kids’ activities include an Art Wall, bubbles and games.

Standing Room Only will be operating a Wine Garden to raise money and awareness for the Buchanan Theatre while members of the Buchanan Town Improvement Society will be offering food, including chicken salad wraps, hot dogs, and barbeque with the fixings.
“Visitors will want to be sure to stroll along Main Street to take advantage of the Merchant Sidewalk Sale,” Gleason said. “They’ll find a unique blend of mom and pop shops featuring art, antiques, books, furnishings and great food and ice cream.”
For additional information, visit the town’s website at www.townofbuchanan.com, the town Facebook page or call the Town Hall at 254-1212.
