Ryan Butler improved his record to 6-1 on the mound as the Glenvar baseball team beat James River Tuesday. The Highlanders won a Three Rivers District game, 12-6, in Buchanan.

Butler, a sophomore, has been on the mound for all six wins for the 6-8 Highlanders. On Tuesday he pitched six strong innings, fanning seven before Dakota Hensel came on to pitched the seventh.
Ryan helped his cause at the plate with a five-for-five day, accounting for half of Glenvar’s 10 hits. Ryan, Jeb Secrist, Justice Forster and Jordan Pickard had two RBI’s each for the Highlanders.
Last Friday at home Glenvar dropped a 6-1 game to visiting Carroll County, the first place team in the Three Rivers. Cameron Wiley, Hensel and Josh Howard split time on the mound but Glenvar only had four hits in the game.
The Highlanders will be back in action Friday with a game at Alleghany. Next week they have two district games at home with Floyd on Tuesday and Giles on Friday, May 10. They finish the regular season with a home game against Galax and a trip to Radford.
“I keep telling the kids it’s not where you start, but where you finish,” said coach Jeremy Cromer. “It we peak at the right time we can do well in the playoffs.”
