Catholic University used a big second half to come from behind and defeat the Roanoke College women’s lacrosse team last Saturday. The visiting Cardinals squeeked out a 13-12 win at Kerr Stadium in Salem.
Roanoke led 6-4 at the half as Maddie McDonald scored four second quarter goals to spark the offense. In a game of runs, Catholic opened the third period with four straight goals. McDonald then scored twice in the final three minutes to make it just a one goal deficit going into the final 15 minutes.
Sydney Winpigler scored as the Maroons struck first in the fourth to knot the game at nine. However, CUA scored four unanswered to go up 13-9 with less than three minutes to go. RC made a final push, scoring three times in the last minute and a half, but ultimately came up short.
McDonald tied her career high in goals for the second time this season with seven. Winpigler added a pair of tallies while Zoe Blair and Regan Tharaldson rounded out the goal scorers.
The Maroons are in Clearwater, Florida this week for a spring break trip. They play York College on Tuesday and have two games today, Susquehanna University at 9:30 am and Chatham University at 3 pm.
