Join the Blue Ridge Veterans Celebration for the Sixth Annual Veteran Appreciation Dinner and Veterans Ceremony at the Vinton War Memorial on Friday, November 10, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. The dinner is free for veterans/current military with proof of military service and one guest.
A $5 donation will be accepted at the gate for all others who would like to join us in celebrating veterans and their families. Money raised will be given to local organizations helping veterans and their families.
Twin Oaks Baptist Church of Rocky Mount, Virginia, is providing the food and preparation for an excellent spaghetti dinner with sides and beverages from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Volunteer scouts and scout parents from Troop 18 and 540 will also assist with serving and providing a ceremonial cake. Guests can stop by anytime between 5:30 – 6:30 pm for food and fellowship.
The Veteran’s Ceremony starts indoors at 6:30 p.m. We will also be recognizing Veteran caregivers, the “Hidden Heroes” behind our men and women who have served. Military caregivers don’t often ask for help, but they deserve our support. Also, Vietnam Veterans Commemoration Pins will be presented to Vietnam Veterans. The event continues outdoors with a flag retirement ceremony conducted by over 100 Boy Scouts from the Great Valley District Boy Scouts of America and soloist, Deedie Kagey. The Veterans will be honored throughout the service.
The event is casual and relaxed. The “High Ground” monument will be available to visit throughout the evening. The event is also co-sponsored by the Blue Ridge Veterans Celebration, the Vinton War Memorial and the Town of Vinton – Special Programs.
