The Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce Foundation is once again offering scholarships aimed at supporting students pursuing technical and vocational careers. Unlike traditional scholarships that often focus on academic excellence and four-year college paths, these $2,000 awards are designed to assist students seeking training beyond high school in fields such as auto mechanics, HVAC, construction, medical technology, graphic design, nursing and more.
Recognizing the ongoing challenge local employers face in filling skilled positions, the chamber established these scholarships to encourage students to consider the impact they can have on the Roanoke Valley workforce. By supporting technical and vocational education, the Chamber hopes to bridge the gap between job openings and qualified candidates.
The scholarships will be awarded based on financial need, work ethic, and career goals rather than focusing primarily on GPA. The goal is to reach students who have demonstrated potential in their chosen fields and are committed to building their careers locally.
Two seniors from Roanoke County and Salem City will be selected to receive the scholarships. The recipients will be honored at the 2025 Business Showcase Registered Apprenticeship Signing Night, held at the Sox Stadium on May 2.
