SOUP IS FOCUS OF WINTER GIFTS

In many congregations around the valley, canned soup is being collected as a mid-winter effort to reduce hunger especially among senior adults and others who may be unable to get out for regular trips to the store. Tied to the Super Bowl football game which falls this year on Feb. 5, Soup for Seniors is promoted by the area’s agency on aging and some neighborhood ecumenical service groups. The Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in the North Lakes neighborhood is a collection point.

BRETHREN PASTORAL CHANGES

The Rev. Harvey S. Leddy has become pastor of Williamson Road Church of the Brethren; he has most recently been interim pastor of the Jones Chapel Church. In the Hollins area the Rev. Allen C. Lenker, associate pastor, has been named pastor of the Summerdean Church. A Hispanic congregation, which has been meeting for several years on Sunday afternoons at First Church of the Brethren, has moved to the Summerdean Church with its Sunday services starting at 12:15 p.m. following the education program at 10:45 a.m.–Compiled by Frances Stebbins
