CONGRESSMAN
U.S. Rep. Ben Cline is inviting residents of Virginia’s 6th Congressional District to submit photographs for consideration in a congressional time capsule commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary.
The initiative is part of America’s semiquincentennial celebration and seeks photographs that capture life in the Shenandoah Valley, Roanoke Valley and Alleghany Highlands during 2026.
In a statement, Cline said the district’s landscapes, communities and traditions make it a unique part of the Commonwealth.
“From the rolling farmland of the Shenandoah Valley and the scenic peaks surrounding the Roanoke Valley to the natural beauty and close-knit communities of the Alleghany Highlands, Virginia’s Sixth District is rich with history, tradition, and hometown pride,” Cline said.
He encouraged residents to submit images that reflect the character of their communities, including mountain vistas, historic downtowns, family farms, local festivals, high school sporting events, small businesses and everyday moments.
Selected photographs may be included in Virginia’s official contribution to the Congressional Time Capsule, which will preserve a snapshot of life in the commonwealth during the nation’s 250th year.
Photographs must be submitted digitally through the designated online submission portal. The deadline for submissions is Friday, June 12.
The Congressional Time Capsule will be sealed in the Capitol Visitor Center as part of the nation’s semiquincentennial observance and is scheduled to remain unopened until July 4, 2276, when Americans celebrate the country’s 500th anniversary.
According to Cline’s office, the project offers families, students, farmers, community organizations, businesses and outdoor enthusiasts an opportunity to leave a record of their communities for future generations.
The 6th Congressional District includes much of western Virginia, including the Shenandoah Valley, Roanoke Valley and Alleghany Highlands.
