Danielle Crawford, 42, has held many positions over the years including being a pharmacy technician and accounts manager for Fast Signs, a national sign and banner company with an office in Salem. The wife of Chance Crawford, Salem’s Circuit Court Clerk, is ready to use what she’s learned over the years for her new position – Salem City Treasurer.
According to the preliminary results, Danielle Crawford received 5,499 out of 8,215 votes cast. Current Chief Deputy Treasurer Shatonna Stores received 2,314 votes. Stores spoke highly of Crawford, saying, “She is a very sweet and kind individual. I wish her much success as our next city treasurer.”
Clearing up Salem’s backlog delinquent taxes and introducing better online payment options are two things Danielle emphasized during her campaign. “I know I can identify and collect on outstanding revenues to keep the city running towards excellence,” she said.
According to Crawford, collecting most city taxes and state income tax are the primary responsibilities of the treasurer’s office.
Danielle Crawford grew up in Shawsville, Virginia, and graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in biology. She unsuccessfully challenged incumbent Bonnie McCormick in 2013 but said she learned a lot during that process. “Going door-to-door is only a fraction of what it takes. People have to know what you stand for,” she said.
Salem City Councilman Bill Jones owned Fast Signs when Crawford was its account manager. He believes, along with other locally elected officials, that Crawford will do a good job as city treasurer.
Danielle Crawford’s relationship with the City of Salem began decades ago. “I love Salem. I grew up in the area,” she said. “Everyone I encountered during the campaign was welcoming. I’m thankful for everyone who voted for me. Now it’s time to get to work.”
