As part of the Salem Museum Speaker Series, Dr. Robert Benne, Roanoke College professor emeritus, returns to conclude his series of talks on the presidents of Roanoke College with a look at the late Norman Fintel’s administration (1975-1989). The presentation takes place on Monday, April 17 at 7 pm at the Salem Museum.

In this lecture, Dr. Benne will describe and interpret the transformative presidency of Norman Fintel, and his wife Jo, that not only put Roanoke College on a path to regional and national prominence, but also helped it recover its “soul,” its traditional sense of identity and mission.

Dr. Benne posits that the soul of the College has been its commitment to what he has called “Christian republicanism,” an intent to form young men and women in the religious and moral virtues needed to serve church and country.

The public is welcome and admission is free. The Salem Museum is located at 801 E Main Street in Salem. www.salemmuseum.org. Contact 540-389-6760 for more information.
