The Roanoke College softball team got two solid pitching performances but couldn’t push a run across as the Maroons dropped a doubleheader to Bridgewater last Saturday. Roanoke was shut out twice, 2-0 and 1-0, on “Senior Day” at the Moyer Complex in Salem.
Lindsay Gedro pitched the first game for RC, tossing a complete game and allowing just one earned run. Mackenzie Cauthorn had a complete-game shutout for the Eagles, giving up just two hits and two walks.
In the second game Roanoke’s Maggie McCray struck out 12 in her seven innings in the circle, scattering seven hits and one walk, and she also had a single at the plate. Haleigh Vaughan had two hits and a walk for the Maroons but Kylie Jones and Evelyn Rhoads combined on a four-hit shutout for Bridgewater.
With the two losses the Maroons dropped to 14-12 on the season and 5-5 in the ODAC. They’re on the road this Saturday to play a doubleheader against Randolph-Macon in Ashland, beginning at 1 pm, and on Sunday they head to Virginia Beach for an ODAC twinbill with Virginia Wesleyan at noon.
