
The Salem High baseball team will be home Friday to take on Blacksburg in a River Ridge District game at Billy Sample Field. Game time is 5:30 pm.
The Spartans were 5-0 after beating Cave Spring, 9-6, at Cave Spring on Tuesday. The Salemites were at Glenvar Wednesday but results were too late for publication.
Cave Spring gave the Spartans a battle on Tuesday. The Knights had the lead when Salem starter Carter Black left after two and a third innings. Zach Bocock pitched the next two and two thirds and picked up the win and Trace Monroe pitched the last two for a save.
Salem’s Mason Hale continued to pound the ball. He was four-for-four with three RBIs to raise his batting average to .688. Black had two more hits and he’s at .526 for the season. Ben Keffer also had two hits for Salem.
The Spartans hosted Lord Botetourt last Friday and won 12-2 in a slaughter-rule shortened game. Monroe started on the mound and got the win and he was also three-for-four at the plate with four runs batted in. Hale had two hits and three runs batted.
Next week the Spartans will host Hidden Valley on Tuesday, followed by a back-to-back games at Northside a week from today and at Christiansburg on Friday, April 18.
