Salem girls fourth in 4D meet, qualify seven for state

William Byrd High School’s Patterson Stadium was the site of the Region 4D track meet last week, and Blacksburg and E.C. Glass ruled the day. Blacksburg won the boys meet and took second among the girls while Glass won the girls’ meet and finished second in the boys.

Salem’s girls finished fourth and had seven girls qualify for the state 4D meet this weekend at Harrisonburg High School. Mia Cromer was second in the high jump and Tiffany McLaughlin was fourth. ShaCoya Price was second in both the long jump and triple jump.

In the discus, Selma Marunica was second and Kalei Memmer was fourth. Memmer was also fifth in the shot put.

Raniyah Majied was 4th in the 400 and Carolina Bowen was fifth in the 1,600, just missing the state meet. Janae Blakeney is also going to state in the 100 and 400 after previously meeting state standards.

The Salem boys were ninth as a team and Jeremiah Wilson had a big day for the Spartans Wilson was second in the 110 meter Hurdles, seventh in the Long Jump and eighth in the 300 Hurdles. He qualified for the state in the 110 Hurdles and is the only Spartan boy headed to the state meet.

Carlos Alleyne  took 8th in the 110m Hurdles  and the 4x800m Relay team was eighth with Christian Crawley, Nathan Helems, Zach Davidson and Aiden Sable. The 4x100m Relay team placed sixth with Malachi Price, Camron Sutley, Jayden McDonald and Jorden McDonald, and the 4x400m Relay team was sixth with Sable, Crawley, Logan Boettcher and Sutley.

Only the top four in each event advanced.
