The Salem High baseball team will be home for the Region 4D championship game if the Spartans are in it. Salem was scheduled to play Jefferson Forest on Wednesday for a spot in the championship game.

Salem is the second seed in the tournament, and the home games go to the higher seeds in Region 4D. After eighth seeded William Byrd upset top-seeded Liberty Christian last week Salem was left as the highest seed in the tournament, giving the Spartans home field against whoever they played.

Salem was scheduled to play Jefferson Forest, the third seed, in a region semifinal on Tuesday night. However, that game was postponed due to wet conditions at Kiwanis Field and rescheduled for Wednesday. Results were too late for publication, but the championship game is tentatively scheduled for Thursday and if Salem is in it the Spartans would be home.

Salem opened Region 4D play with a 7-5 win over E.C. Glass at Kiwanis Field last week. Down 5-4, the Spartans rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out the win. Caleb Lingenfelter picked up the win in relief of Zion Honaker, going two and two-thirds innings on the mound. Caleb also had a big RBI double in the three run sixth and Zac Honaker was two-for-two with an RBI.

The win lifted Salem to 14-3 on the season, and if the Spartans won Wednesday they also clinched a spot in the state tournament.
