The Old Dominion Athletic Conference field hockey tournament is scheduled to begin next Tuesday, October 31, and the Roanoke College team has clinched a spot in the field.
Eight teams in the ODAC play field hockey and the top six make the tournament. Coming into the week RC was third in the conference and three games ahead of the seventh place team with just two to play. The Maroons were scheduled to host Lynchburg on Wednesday, then finish the regular season at Randolph-Macon Saturday.
As of Wednesday the Maroons still had a shot at one of the top two spots, and that would give them a first round bye in the tournament. The top two teams receive byes while the third and fourth seeds host the sixth and fifth place teams.
The Maroons came into the week at 4-1 in the ODAC and 12-3 overall. They lost a non-conference game to Washington College in Chestertown, MD last Saturday, 3-1. Lauren Heffron scored the only goal for RC.
