Salem’s Ashlyn Pugh serves one up during warmer days at last week’s scrimmage
against Lord Botetourt.

The local high school sports team were all ready to open their spring sports schedules this week, but the weather hasn’t cooperated. All Salem and Glenvar High sports scheduled for Monday and Tuesday were postponed, and at press time the forecast for Wednesday wasn’t much better.

Salem High had four games postponed on Monday. The boys’ soccer game at Franklin County was moved to March 29 and the boys and girls lacrosse doubleheader at Jefferson Forest will now be played May 1. Salem had a baseball game with William Fleming postponed, and no makeup date was agreed upon at press time. Glenvar had a baseball game at Martinsville, and that’s been moved to May 8.

On Tuesday Salem had baseball and softball with Lord Botetourt postponed. Both of those games were rescheduled for today, March 16. The baseball team will be at LB and the softball team will host the Cavaliers at the Moyer Complex, both at 5 pm.

Glenvar had three events postponed on Tuesday, softball at Christiansburg, girls tennis against Northside at Walrond Park and boys tennis at home against Northside. All three were moved to this Friday, March 17.

Today, Thursday, Glenvar has baseball at home with Alleghany, boys soccer at Northside, girls’ tennis at Alleghany and boys’ tennis at home against Alleghany. Salem has the rescheduled games with LB today.

On Friday the Salem lacrosse teams host Western Albemarle in a doubleheader at Spartan Field, with the girls at 5:30 pm and the boys at 7 pm. The Salem softball team is at William Byrd and the baseball team will host Byrd at Kiwanis Field at 5 pm.

On Monday Salem is at Fleming for baseball and Franklin County is here for soccer. Glenvar has baseball and softball at Grayson County, boys tennis at Byrd and girls’ tennis, against Byrd, at GHS.

Next Tuesday, March 21, LB is at Salem for a baseball game and the Spartans go to Daleville to play the Cavaliers in softball. Western Albemarle is at Spartan Field for girls’ soccer while the SHS girls’ tennis team plays at Hidden Valley.

All this, of course, is weather permitting.
