Who wouldn’t like to buy a hot care? Maybe the man who was test driving a Mercury on West Main Street in Salem Monday afternoon. The prospective buyer was taking it our for a spin when his test revealed a flaw in the motor: it was highly combustible.
The car caught on fire as he drove and he parked it at the Jet Service station on Main Street and calmy called the fire department. A truck was there in minutes and the blaze was extinguished before further complications set it.
The man wouldn’t give his name to reporters, but no left no doubt that this was not the car he was looking for.
“I want something that’s not going to burn so much oil,” he remarked.
