One of the oddest springs in this country is the intermittent spring which is located seven miles east of the Roanoke Red Sulphur Springs. A party recently visited this spring but had to wait in its capricious humor for eight hours to watch it perform, At last, all of a sudden, with a slight gurgling, there willed up out of the damp ground, a stream of beautiful, clear cold water, large enough in volume to turn a fair sized mill wheel. For nearly an hour the water flowed and then sank out of sight, leaving only wet ground and some hollow gurglings.
Prof. Apgar of Trenton, New Jersey, says this is the only genuine, intermitten spring of which he has any knowledge, although there may be others.
