Friends of Salem Library Ready to Spread the Word About the Library and Salem to New Residents
The Friends of the Salem Library (FOSL) continually brainstorm ways to provide support and spread the news about the great resources and programs at the Salem Public Library. Through quick on-the-street surveys during this past year, the group found that the library was well known and well used, especially by younger families.
While thinking of additional ways to market the library to the community, the FOSLs thought about a great opportunity to reach out to new residents of Salem. The Valleydale apartments will add approximately 300 new families to Salem. The FOSLs decided to create a packet for each new family including information about the Library and the FOSL organization and to also include information about the City of Salem itself and its local merchants. Members of the FOSLs canvassed local merchants and found that they liked the idea and were willing to provide material for the packets.
The first batch of 25 “Welcome to Salem” packets were delivered recently to Valleydale for distribution to the first residents who will move in. FOSL is now creating the next batch for delivery in late July. All merchants and local organizations are invited to supply advertising material for the packets. Any questions about this project can be directed to Ken Sosnowski, Treasurer of the FOSLs, at 540-330-4970.
