Jenna Conway, Virginia’s superintendent of public instruction, visited G.W. Carver Elementary School last week to recognize the school’s recent Blue Ribbon School designation.

Conway, who serves as the executive officer of the Virginia Department of Education, toured the school alongside a group of department staff members from Richmond. The visit lasted more than an hour and included classroom observations across all grade levels.

The stop was part of the state’s “Commonwealth Listening Tour,” an initiative aimed at gathering feedback from teachers and principals to help establish priorities for improving student outcomes in public schools.

During the visit, Conway and her team engaged with students and teachers in each classroom they observed, immersing themselves in the learning environment.

Following the tour, Conway and school leaders participated in a question-and-answer session with principals, providing an opportunity for discussion on educational priorities and challenges.
