The Salem and Glenvar cross country teams both competed in the Clash with the Titans meet at Hidden Valley last Saturday. There were 15 boys teams and 10 girls teams entered in the varsity races.

In the boys’ meet Eastern Montgomery came out on top with Glenvar finishing second. Tyler Davis was the top performer for Glenvar, finishing in fifth place followed by Aldin Smith in 10th, Evan Harris in 14th, Zachary Davis in 15th, and Asher Faught in 18th.

“The team demonstrated exceptional depth, as all five of our scoring runners finished within the top 20,” said Glenvar coach James Osborne.

Salem had just two boys competing. Preston Espinoet finished 99th out of 115 runners and Elijah Nielson was 104th.

In the girls’ race North Cross was the team winner and Glenvar was fifth. Three Highlanders placed in the top 20 with Everly Shanks in 14th, Rayya Bryson in 17th and Anna Hall in 20th. Also contributing to the team’s score were Genna Shanks in 53rd and Naomi Kidd in 72nd.

Salem did not have a full team. Ashlyn Davis was the Spartans’ top finisher, placing 45th out of 85 runners. Next for Salem was Madesyn Grubb, who finished 51st, and Chloe Underwood placed 70th.

The Glenvar Boys middle school team secured a third place finish at Hidden Valley behind Blacksburg and Cave Spring. The team’s performance was spearheaded by Jaxson Kuzmich, who finished in first place.

Salem and Glenvar will both run in the Alleghany Invitational at the Jackson River Sports Complex in Axton this Saturday.
