Glenvar volleyball coach Basil Conner was beside himself Tuesday after the Highlanders lost in Radford. It was a team he felt his girls should have beaten, but instead they lost in three quick sets.

“The girls showed no desire tonight,” he said of the 25-18, 25-10, 25-12 loss. “Radford has a decent team, but I felt like we should have been able to beat them. Our girls gave up when they got behind. They didn’t have any fight in them, and I just don’t understand that lack of effort.”

The Highlanders were without setter Allison Clark, who ill and unable to play. Katherine Ward set in her absence.

“Katherine felt like it was her fault, but no one was moving,” said Conner. “Too many balls were hitting the floor.”

The loss dropped the Highlanders under .500 at 7-8. Glenvar will try to bounce back tonight with a match at Carroll County.

“They’re very scrappy,” said Conner. “We’re going to have to get a lot better effort Thursday night.”
