The Glenvar boys took control of the Three Rivers District with a convincing 5-0 soccer win over the Buffaloes at Floyd County High last Thursday. Both teams were undefeated in the district at 4-0 prior to the outcome.
Glenvar drew first blood 10 minutes into the game when Parker Doolan hammered a shot off the crossbar and Levi King followed it up for the first goal of the game. King would score again 23 minutes into the contest, then Evan Harris and Doolan would each score before the half to give Glenvar a 4-0 lead at the break.
Jackson Jones scored in the second half to complete the 5-0 victory. Ryder Francisco, Henry Schruth and James Housh all had assists on the night while Tyler Shannon and Drew Butler com bined for the shutout in the net. Glenvar outshot the Buffalos, 26-5.
“This was a really good road victory for us as Floyd hadn’t lost at home this year,” said Glenvar coach Josh Jones. “I thought we came out with good energy and played at our pace much of the night.”
The win, along with a 3-1 win at Franklin County last Wednesday and an 8-0 win over Martinsville Monday at home, gives the Highlanders a 9-0-1 record on the season. Glenvar was scheduled to host Auburn on Wednesday fol lowed by a trip to Carroll County tonight.
