The Glenvar High softball team improved to 10-5 on the season with a 7-0 shutout win over Liberty High at Glenvar Monday.

The Highlanders were hanging on to a 3-0 lead until the sixth inning when their bats came alive and they scored four runs on five hits. Chloe Maxey got things started in the bottom of the sixth inning with a single, and Cora Meade followed with another single to put two on base for Zella Hayes. The freshman slugger then put the game out of reach with a three-run blast to make it 6-0. Glenvar got one more run in the inning when Abby Teubert singled and scored on a double by Haley Leginus.

Glenvar was led by Hayes, who had three hits and three RBIs, and Teubert, who had three hits and an RBI. Leginus added two hits and two RBIs. Hannah Street went the distance on the mound, allowing four hits and striking out four.

The victory followed a 4-3 win over Carroll County last Thursday in Hillsville. Glenvar scored all four runs in the first inning and held on to win.

The first inning rally started with Hayes walked and Audrey Moles singled. Teubert then doubled, scoring both runners, and Leginus then singled to knock in Teubert. Amelia Gierke reached base on an error and scored on a single by Madison Duncan, giving Glenvar the 4-0 lead.

Carroll County scored one run in the bottom of the first and added two more in the third but that’s all they would get against Street, who picked up the win on the mound. Hannah struck out seven.

The win lifted Glenvar to 4-3 in Three Rivers District games. They’re at Northside for a non-district game tonight, followed by a district game at Radford Friday and a trip to James River on Monday.
