GHS tennis sweeps northside

The Glenvar tennis teams defeated Northside in a battle of Roanoke County teams last week. The girls won 9-0 at home and the boys won 6-3 at Walrond Park.

Singles winners for the girls included Kara Wright(8-4), Riley Ginger(8-2), Jordan Downing(8-5), Emily Yando(8-1), Adelia Mau(8-6) an Barika Mirza(8-1). Doubles winners were the teams of Wright and Downing at one, Emily Yando and Allison Clark at two and Hannah Yando and Hannah Green at three.

The boys led 2-1 after doubles, which was played first. Adonis Rose and Freddie Eichelman won at one and Zach Chittum and Nick Deaton won at two.

The Highlanders took four singles to wrap it up, including the top three on the ladder with Rose, Eichelman and Chittum, who won on a tie-breaker. Garrett Howell also won at number six.

The boys are now 6-3 as a team. They host Auburn Friday.

The girls played Auburn at home on Tuesday and lost 7-2. Emily Yando and Barika Mirza picked up singles wins for the Highlanders at number three and six.

On Monday Glenvar plays Byrd, with the boys at home and the girls heading to Vinton.
