The Glenvar volleyball team will be home tonight to take on Roanoke County rival Northside in a non-district match. Glenvar was undefeated through three matches pending Tuesday’s match with Auburn. Results were too late for early Labor Day deadlines.
Last week the Highlanders opened the season with three wins. After beating Craig County and Northside on the first two nights of the season, both in three sets, they traveled to Vinton Thursday to take on William Byrd. The two county rivals split the first two sets before Glenvar rallied to win the next two and take the match 25-23, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-16.
“Byrd has a really good team,” said Glenvar coach Mark Rohrback. “I was extremely pleased with how our young squad played. I’m so proud of them.”
Macy McMahon led Glenvar with a dozen kills. Zella Hayes had seven kills, Sophia Hammersley had five kills and nine assists and Olivia Collins had five blocks.
Next Monday, September 8, the Highlanders will open Three Rivers District play with a home match against Martinsville, and a week from today they’ll be in Hillsville to take on Carroll County in a district match.
