The Glenvar golfers will be at the Botetourt Golf & Swim Club today for a Three Rivers District match. A shotgun start will begin the match at 1 pm.

The Highlanders have had a busy schedule to open the season with six matches in 11 days. They were at the Hunting Hills Country Club Wednesday of this week to play in the Roanoke County Cup event but results were too late for publication.

On Monday of this week Floyd County hosted a Three Rivers District match at their home course, Great Oaks, and the Buffaloes continued to dominate the district with the low team score of 304 and the medalist, Peyton Mason, who shot 72.

Radford finished second at 329 and Carroll County edged Glenvar for third place, 338 to 339. Glenvar’s John Deel and Easton Quesenberry tied for low score for the Highlanders with 85 each. Grayson Shearer and Jack Osburn also scored with 93 each.

Last Thursday at Forest Park in Martinsville the Bulldogs, the newest member of the Three Rivers District, hosted a 3RD match. Floyd went low again with a 295 and Mason was medalist with a 68. Freshman Deel led the Highlanders with a career best 76 as the Highlanders carded 345 for fifth place behind Floyd, Radford at 321 and Carroll and Patrick County had 342 each.

“We’re still working on consistency and confidence in our squad,” said Glenvar coach Shawn Duff. “We’re having a hard time keeping big numbers off the scorecard. Slow starts are also hurting us and we need to start faster and get our round started in a positive direction. We will continue to strive to be more consistent and focus on positive body language and attitude.”
