
The Glenvar softball team came up a run short of securing their first win Monday when the Highlanders dropped a 6-5 decision at Northside. The Highlanders also lost at Northside Tuesday, 18-8, and are now 0-4 on the young season.
On Monday at Hidden Valley Glenvar jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning when Paisley Hodge walked, then scored on a fielding error. The next two batters reached base safely and Zella Hayes followed with a three run homer.
Hidden Valley chipped away at the lead and came back to tie it in the fourth inning. Each team scored one in the fifth, keeping the score tied. In the bottom of the sixth inning a fielding error allowed Hidden Valley to score a run and the game ended with the score 6-5.
Audrey Moles led Glenvar with two hits, including a double. Hayden Hartz also added two hits and Hayes, Kayleigh Luck and Jaycee Nunley each added a hit. Nunley went the distance on the mound, allowing seven hits.
On Tuesday Glenvar fell behind 9-0 after four innings but rallied to cut the lead to 9-7 with a seven-run top of the fifth. However, the Vikings regrouped and pulled away for the win.
Glenvar had 11 hits, led by Hodge with three. Moles, Nunley and Hayes each had two hits. Hodge and Nunley split time on the mound.
The girls return to the diamond today to host Martinsville at 5 pm in their Three Rivers District opener.
