The Glenvar Middle School teams split games with Cave Spring on Monday as their season nears the end. The girls won a close one at Cave Spring and the boys lost at home. The girls pulled out a 19-17 win as Grace Fiedler scored seven points for the Highlanders. Ryan Jones and Kinley Phillips had four each as Glenvar held the Squires to four points in the first half.

“Cave started pressing and made a comeback, but we were able to hold them off,” said coach Andrew Quillen. Last week the girls won at Floyd, 28-12. That marked just the third time the middle school has beaten Floyd since 2014, and two have been this season. Fiedler and Phillips had eight points each to lead Glenvar.

The boys lost to Cave Spring, 48-25, at home Monday after pulling out a big win at Christiansburg last Friday, 44-39. Evan Harris led the Highlanders with 11 points against Christiansburg, Levi King had 13 rebounds and Brody Williams had four steals. Both teams were scheduled to play Northside on Wednesday of this week but results were too late for publication.
