Glenvar runners open the season with strong showing in Giles

The Glenvar  cross country team opened the 2017 season with a run in the Giles Invitational last week. The girls finished fourth and the boys were ninth as a team.

Rachel Millirons led the girls with a fourth place finish at 21:06.64. Becky Linkous also cracked the top 20 with a 16th place finish in 22:12.76. Also scoring, in order, were Kailee Sesler, Madison Osburn and Isabelle Pope and also running were Ashley Zaronsky and Dominga Ortega. Alyssa Meadows was on JV, but ran 26:23.16 and will now move up to varsity.

For the boys, Dustin Wade led the Highlanders with a time of 18:19.85, good for 18th place overall. Bryant Loftis(9:40) and Brendan Killeen(19:51) also ran under 20 minutes and other scorers were Adren Jacobs and Chris Herington. Scott Wells and Ryan Wilkes rounded out the GHS team.

There was also a middle school race and Glenvar’s Carly Wilkes won that with a time of 12:47.82. Rachel Smith was fifth in 14:15.61.
