The Glenvar girls split two close softball games with Hidden Valley in the span of six days. Glenvar won 3-2 at home last Wednesday then lost 4-1 at Hidden Valley on Monday. Last week at Glenvar the Highlanders got on the board in the first inning when Amelia Gierke and Abby Teubert both singled. Claire Spence then singled to score them both. Hidden Valley scored two runs in the third inning off GHS pitcher Hannah Street to even the score, but the Highlanders went back in front with a sixth inning rally. Chloe Maxey reached base on a fielding error and Audrey Moles ran for her and scored on a single by Hayden Hartz. Street then struck out the first two batters and coerced a pop up for the third out to end the game. Hannah went the distance on the mound only allowing four hits and striking out seven.

On Monday of this week the Highlanders returned the trip to Hidden Valley and the Titans evened the score. Glenvar held a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning, on an RBI double by Street in the first, but Hidden Valley scored four runs on five hits with two outs in the fifth to take the lead.

The Highlanders were plagued by LOBs in the loss, leaving two on in the fourth and leaving three runners on base in the fifth and sixth innings. Glenvar was held to four hits, two by Gierke and one each by Claire Spence and Street. Abby Teubert went the distance on the mound and had six strikeouts. With the split the Highlanders are 8-7 on the season and they were scheduled to play at James River in a Three Rivers District game on Wednesday. The Highlanders are at Radford Friday.
