The Glenvar girls played host to Patrick County in a Three Rivers District softball game Tuesday and dropped a 5-1 decision to fall to 8-5 on the season. Glenvar is now 3-3 in district play.
The Cougars had five hits and scored three runs in the first inning to take an early lead. Glenvar didn’t score until the seventh inning when Hannah Street and Haley Leginus both doubled for the Highlanders’ only run.
Abby Teubert went the distance on the mound for Glenvar, striking out five. Glenvar had just four hits and only two before the seventh inning as Audrey Moles and Amelia Gierke had hits.
The loss came one day after a big 6-5 non-district win at Hidden Valley Monday. The game went down to the wire before the Highlanders prevailed.
Going into the bottom of the seventh inning Glenvar held a 6-3 lead but the first two Titans scored to cut the lead to 6-5. Hidden Valley had the tying run on third base with no outs but Street got a strike out, a pop up and an infield out to close out the win. Hannah pitched the whole game, fanning seven.
Gierke led Glenvar with three hits Monday. Zella Hayes had two hits and two RBIs, Teubert had two hits and Street had one hit and two RBIs.
The Highlanders are back on the diamond today with a game at Carroll County.
