Glenvar senior Joey Loder won two individual state championships and the girls’ 4×400 relay team also earned state champion honors at the Virginia High School League Class 2 indoor track meet last week. Liberty University in Lynchburg hosted the meet the meet on Wednesday and Thursday.
“We are incredibly proud to share the results from the VHSL Class 2 State Indoor Track & Field Championships,” said Glenvar coach Bekka Loder. “Our GHS athletes represented our program with determination, hard work, and a true competitive spirit.”
The boys’ finished fourth as a team with 39 points while the girls’ were sixth with 40. Bruton High is the state boys’ champ while Lee High School won the girls’ Class 2 state championship.
Joey Loder not only won the boys’ 55 meter hurdles but he tied the state meet record with a time of 7.50. It was a new personal record for Joey and he broke his own school record with that time. Joey also won the boys’ 500m dash with a time of 1:07.06 and top off the meet he took third in the 300 in 35.90.
The girls’ 4×400 team of Anna Hall, Kailee McDonald, Rayya Bryson, and Aiden Beverly won a state first place medal with a PR time of 1:16.55, crushing the school record.
Two relay teams took seconds. The girls’ 4×200 team of Meena Chen, McDonald, Elle Graffeo and Beverly was runnerup with a PR time of 1:52.59 and the 4×800 foursome of Hall, McDonald, Lauren Smith and Bryson was second with a 24 second PR time of 10:30.38.
The boys 4×400 team also took the podium with a third place finish. Aldin Smith, Cash Malcolm, Asher Faught and Evan Harris ran an 11 second PR time of 8:34.98, breaking the school record once again.
Individual fourth places went to Smith in the boys 3200 with a time of 10:17.60, Hall in the girls 500MD with a PR time of 1:25.70 and Bryson in the girls 1000 with a PR time of 3:19.14. Beverly was fifth in the girls 300MD with a time of 44.41.
Rounding out the Glenvar performances, Harris was seventh in the boys’ 1000 with a PR time of 2:41.62 and Faught was ninth in the boys’ 1600 with a PR of 4:47.40. The 4×400 team of Will Howard, Jackson Wimmer, Faught and Harris was ninth with a time of 3:47.22. Graffeo was 12th in the 55 hurdle.
“These results reflect the countless hours our athletes have put in this season,” said coach Loder. “We are extremely proud of every athlete who competed. Whether they finished top three, top eight or fought hard for a top eight spot, each moment mattered and only sets us up for success in the upcoming Outdoor season.”
