Glenvar’s Alec McIlwain, a recently graduated senior, saw his high school tennis season come to an end in the Class 2 state singles semifinals last week. Alec lost to Christoph Schweitzer of Bruton High, 6-1, 6-3, last Friday at Liberty University.
Schweitzer went on to win the Class 2 singles championship. He defeated Jack Clem of Richlands, 6-2, 7-5, in Saturday’s championship match, giving McIlwain the satisfaction of knowing he lost to the state champion.
“Alec has represented Glenvar very well by winning two Region C individual singles titles and leading the team to two reginal finals, a regional championship and a state title,” said Glenvar coach Bob Haynie.
McIlwain will attend the University of Virginia next fall and play club tennis.
