Abby Teubert pitched a seven inning shutout to lead the Glenvar High softball team to a 3-0 win over Carroll County at Glenvar High Tuesday.
Glenvar got on the board first in the second inning when Hannah Street led off with a double and later scored on a wild pitch. In the fifth inning Audrey Moles doubled and Teubert walked. Haley Leginus then singled, scoring Moles and Teubert. Glenvar had seven players each with a single hit.
Teubert went the distance on the mound, only allowing five hits and striking out six. With the win the Highlanders improved to 4-2 on the season.
Last Thursday the girls lost at Patrick County, 3-2, despite outhitting the Cougars 10-1. Street pitched the one-hitter but errors proved to be the difference.
Glenvar also didn’t get the clutch hits. The Highlanders had runners on second and third with one out in the fourth inning but could not score a run. In the top of the sixth and seventh innings Glenvar had bases loaded but could not get the tying run across the plate. In total Glenvar stranded eleven runners that proved to be costly. Audrey Moles and Haley Leginus each had three hits and Amelia Gierke had two hits to lead Glenvar.
Glenvar is back in action Friday with a game at Liberty, followed by a trip to Salem Monday and a home game against Radford next Tuesday.
