Kathleen Callahan Goodwin, a beloved sister, mother, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on March 1, 1942, in Schenectady, New York, Kathleen was the daughter of Paul and Jane Callahan. Kathy, as she was fondly known, led a life dedicated to service, faith, and love. Her strength and unwavering devotion touched the lives of all who knew her. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she found comfort and community.
For over three decades, Kathy embraced the principles of recovery and was a cherished friend of Bill W., finding support and camaraderie within the rooms of the fellowship as well as on Zoom. Her kindness and empathy endeared her to many, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Kathy made a significant impact as an educator, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of her students over the years. She taught chemistry at Salem High School, as well as science courses at the Jefferson College of Health Sciences and Hollins University.
Kathy is survived by three daughters, Anna Goodwin, Kelly Goodwin, Paula Goodwin Fenton; her beloved granddaughter, Emmylou; and her cherished pets, Lovey and Maggie Mae. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Jane Callahan, to whom she was a life-long friend and inspiration. Though Kathy may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were touched by her compassion and grace. May she rest in peace, knowing that she was deeply loved and will be forever remembered.
A memorial service and reception to celebrate Kathy’s life will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on March 11, 2024, at 2pm. The memorial service will also be live-streamed from the church’s Youtube page.
