Donald “Duck” Curtis Jonas, Sr., 89, of Salem, Va., went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 19, 2024.

Don was born in Cripple Creek, Va.  He married the love of his life and best friend, Dot, in 1956, and moved to Salem where they raised their family.  He was a dedicated and trusted diesel truck mechanic for 47 years.  He prided himself in his career and his family.  He loved to tell stories about working all night, driving across the country, and customers asking for him specifically when they needed their truck worked on.  He was a selfless man who would do anything for anyone and worked tirelessly to provide for his family.  He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He enjoyed fishing, camping, working in his garden, being outdoors, singing to all the kids, and attending church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma W. Jonas and Hugh C. Jonas; wife of 58 years, Dorothy L. Jonas; brother, Gerald E. Jonas, Sr.; sisters, Blanch J. Dillman and Jacqueline J. Stuart; daughter, Donna L. Hodges; and grandsons, Randy C. Glass and Lacy D. Hodges.

He is survived by his sister, Glenda J. Lowe; children, Diana L. Cornette and husband, Jack, Virginia C. Glass and husband, Johnny, Hugh Troy Jonas and special friend, Misti, and Donald C. Jonas, Jr. and wife, Mitzi; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 very special great-great-grandchild, Aleeah, who was his best buddy; and his beloved dogs, Izzy and Kilo.

A period of visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 12 Noon on Thursday, February 22, 2024, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem.  A service celebrating Donald’s life began right after at 12 Noon with Pastor Clay Dalton officiating.
