Today the Museum highlights a valentine in their collection from 1871. This little valentine was sent along with a love letter where a secret admirer had written a poem for his love.
The front reads “Love / Joy / Hope / Truth”. A note on the back says: “My heart, poor heart, there is no use to deny, as long as you are present I cant keep it quiet, my true love. Love, joy, hope and truth is all that I love for, my love.”
Visitors can see this valentine and accompanying letter this weekend at the Salem Museum as part of Hands-On History Saturday.
The Salem Museum is located at 801 East Main Street and is open Tuesday to Saturday 10-4 and Sunday 1-4.
