Football practice for the Salem and Glenvar High School teams will begin on Monday, with both schools having afternoon and evening sessions.

Salem will open camp at 2:30 pm Monday and go for two hours. Then, after a break, the Spartans will be back on the practice field from 6:15 pm until 8:15 pm and that will be the schedule for next week.

Glenvar will begin at 3:30 pm and go until 5:30 pm. After an hour and 15 minute break the Highlanders will practice from 6:45 to 9 pm, all next week.

The first scrimmage will be August 10 when Salem hosts Brookville at 6 pm. Glenvar will host Graham on Friday, August 11, at 10 am.

Both teams will also have scrimmages on August 18. Salem is at home with a benefit game against Magna Vista while Glenvar will play a Benefit game at Blacksburg.

Volleyball practice is also beginning next week, and Salem will scrimmage Glenvar on August 10 at 7 pm. The jayvees will scrimmage at 5:30 pm.

The Salem golfers will open their season on Wednesday of next week at the Pulaski County Country Club. Glenvar won’t open until the annual Bob McLelland Metro Tournament on August 9 and 10, and Salem will also play in that one.

The cross country teams are the last spring sports to open. Glenvar will take the gun at Giles on August 30 and Salem won’t open until September 2nd at Christiansburg.
