Lewis hosts MS football jamboree today

The fall sports season is rapidly approaching and several teams have scrimmages scheduled for this week.
Tonight, Thursday, the Salem volleyball team will host defending Class 2 state champion Glenvar in a scrimmage in the Andrew Lewis Middle School gym. The jayvees will go at 5:30 pm with the varsity to follow at approximately 7 pm.
Also Thursday, the Andrew Lewis Middle School football team will be participating in a jamboree at Spartan Field, in front of Salem High School. William Byrd, William Fleming and Patrick Henry will join Lewis for a series of 20 plays each.
The jamboree will begin at 5 pm with Lewis against Fleming and PH against Byrd. Lewis and Byrd will switch opponents for the next round, and the third series will pit Lewis against Byrd while PH goes against Fleming.
On Friday both high school teams will scrimmage for the first time. Salem High will be at Brookville for a controlled scrimmage at 6 pm while Glenvar has a scrimmage at William Byrd, also at 6 pm.
On Saturday the Lewis middle school team will participate in a jamboree at Cave Spring, and next week the Spartans are at Pulaski for a volleyball scrimmage Tuesday and Glenvar is at Lord Botetourt to bump with the Cavaliers on Wednesday, August 17.
A week from today Lewis sports open for real with the football team hosting William Fleming at Spartan Field and the volleyball team heading to Franklin County.
Final football tuneups for the high school teams will be on Friday, August 19. Salem will host Magna Vista in a Benefit game at 7 pm and Glenvar will be in a jamboree in Blacksburg.
