The Glenvar volleyball team had its seven-game win streak snapped on Monday but the Highlanders are still undefeated in Three Rivers District games. The Highlanders are 9-2 after bouncing back to beat Patrick County on Tuesday in Stuart.
Glenvar’s win streak ended on Monday at home with a five-set loss to visiting Blacksburg. The Bruins improved to 10-1 with the win and Glenvar gave them a battle to the end. Blacksburg won the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-14, but the Highlanders stormed back to take two close ones, 26-24 and 25-23. Glenvar went down early in the third set to 15 and lost it 15-9 as the Bruins escaped with the win. Emily Rohrback had 22 assists, Zella Hayes had 17 kills and Macy McMahon had 28 digs.
On Tuesday, Glenvar rebounded with a three set win over Patrick County, 25-14, 25-21 and 25-23. Olivia Collins and Grace Fiedler had six kills each and Kherington Jewell had four aces and 19 digs.
Glenvar’s only losses thus far have been to Class 5 Patrick Henry and Class 4 Blacksburg. The Highlanders are unbeaten against Class 2 and 3 teams and 4-0 in the Three Rivers District.
Last Thursday, Glenvar was at Radford for a district match. The Bobcats are the defending Class 2 champions but Glenvar took the first meeting of this season in four sets. Radford won the first set, 25-19, but Glenvar took the next three by scores of 25-10, 25-17 and 25-15.
“We started off a bit slow, but turned it on after the first set,” said coach Mark Rohrback.
Hayes had her best match of the season in this one with 14 kills, 12 digs and three aces. Emily Rohrback had 21 assists and five kills and McMahon had 28 digs.
The Highlanders are home next Monday to host Patrick Henry. On Tuesday, Floyd comes here for a Three Rivers District match.
